The DJM26-5 is a 3-section folding timber loft ladder built using a traditional sandwich construction method first developed in 1951. Solid pine strings and extra-hard spruce treads are joined with dovetail connections for strength and long service life. An insulated trapdoor with a continuous perimeter seal keeps heat loss to a minimum, making this a practical choice for homes where the loft hatch is a significant source of draughts.
The ladder is EN 14975 certified and arrives pre-assembled, ready for straightforward installation without specialist tools.
Loft Ladder Features
Solid wood construction with dovetail joints
Pine ladder strings and extra-hard spruce treads are joined using dovetail connections, a method that resists loosening under repeated load. The result is a ladder that stays rigid and quiet underfoot through years of use. EN 14975 certified. The timber is also FSC certified (FSC® C022300), sourced from forests managed to strict environmental and social standards.
Non-slip ribbed treads
Each tread is finished with a ribbed non-slip surface, giving secure footing when climbing with both hands free or carrying items. The added grip is particularly useful in low light or when treads are dusty.
20mm insulated trapdoor
A 26mm HDF trapdoor fitted with 20mm of insulation and a continuous perimeter seal achieves a U-value of 1.6 W/m²K. The seal prevents draughts and the insulation cuts heat loss through the hatch, which is one of the most common weak points in upstairs insulation.
Pre-assembled for straightforward installation
The ladder arrives pre-assembled with detailed installation instructions. No specialist tools are required, so a competent DIYer with basic carpentry skills can fit it in an afternoon. A professional installer can complete the job faster still.
TwinActive vapour barrier
An integrated TwinActive foil vapour barrier seals the installation against air movement, certified to EN 12207 Class 4. This prevents warm, moist air from the living space entering the loft, where it can condense and cause damp problems over time.
Value pricing without compromise on build
The DJM26-5 sits at the affordable end of our timber loft ladder range, but uses the same construction methods and materials as our higher-priced models. It is the right choice if you want a properly built timber ladder without paying for additional finishing or accessories you may not need.
Need a longer ladder? Add an extension kit
Extension Kit: For higher ceilings, the extension kit converts the 3-section folding ladder into a 4-section system, adding up to 70cm of reach.

We strongly recommend a professional installer fits your loft ladder. If you choose to install it yourself, inspect the ladder thoroughly for any damage or defects before you begin. If you find any issues, contact our team straight away.
Please note that if damage is found after installation has been attempted, DJM Direct cannot be held responsible.

Delivery Information
Mainland UK Delivery
We aim to dispatch all mainland UK orders for next working day delivery using a 24-hour courier service (excluding weekends and Bank Holidays). To qualify for same-day dispatch, your order must be paid for before 1pm.
Please note: While we use a 24-hour delivery service, this is not guaranteed and delays can occasionally occur due to courier circumstances beyond our control.
Extended Delivery Areas & Oversized Items
Deliveries to Northern Ireland, Scotland, Highlands, and Remote Islands are sent via a 48-hour delivery service.
Items that are over 30kg in weight or longer than 1.2 metres will also be shipped on a 2-working-day service due to handling requirements.
Some large or heavy items are not eligible for delivery outside mainland UK or to the Highlands. We will notify you at checkout if this applies to your order.

How to Return an Item
To return an item, please follow these steps:

Receive Your RMA Number:
We'll provide you with a Return Merchandise Authorisation (RMA) number and detailed instructions on how to proceed. -
Download the RMA Form:
Download the RMA form. Complete the form and include it with your returned item. If you're unable to download or complete the form, our customer service team is here to help. Simply give us a call or send us an email, and we'll assist you in completing the form over the phone or provide an alternative method that suits your needs. -
Prepare Your Return:
Ensure the product is in its original packaging and in good condition. -
Return the Goods:
- Faulty or Incorrect Items: We'll arrange to collect the item from you at no additional cost.
- Change of Mind or Mistakenly Ordered: You are responsible for the return shipping costs.
- Receive Your Resolution: After we receive and inspect the item, we'll either repair, replace, or refund your purchase within 14 days using the same payment method you used for your purchase.
Types of Returns
1. Faulty or Incorrect Items
Under UK consumer law, you have the right to reject a faulty or incorrect item within 30 days of receipt for a full refund. If a fault develops within 6 months you are entitled to a repair or replacement. Should these remedies fail, you can then claim a refund.
All our factory refurbished stock is tested in the manufacturer's workshops and comes with a manufacturer-approved 6 months warranty, offering additional protection beyond your statutory rights. You may choose to contact the manufacturer directly for warranty services. However, these warranties do not replace your rights under UK consumer law, and you can still seek remedies through us as outlined above.
- Entitled to Repair or Replacement: Contact us using the general returns procedure to request a repair or replacement.
- If Repair or Replacement Fails: You may then request a refund through the same returns procedure.
2. Change of Mind or Mistakenly Ordered
If you've changed your mind or made a mistake with your order, you can return the item within 14 days of receiving it for a full refund. Follow the General Returns Procedure outlined above. You are responsible for covering the return shipping costs.
Condition of Returned Goods
To ensure a seamless return process, please return items in their original packaging to protect them during transit and maintain their resalable condition and ensure items are in good condition and free from damage beyond normal handling.
Diminished Value: You may be responsible for any loss in value if the item is not returned in a resalable condition.
Refunds
Refunds are issued using the same payment method you used for your original purchase and will be processed within 14 days of us receiving the returned goods or proof of shipment.
Please note: Shipping costs are not refundable unless the return is due to our error or a faulty product.
